300 is a 2007 American epic fantasy war film based on the 1998 comic series of the same name by Frank Miller and Lynn Varley. Both are fictionalized retellings of the Battle of Thermopylae within the Persian Wars. The film was directed by Zack Snyder, while Miller served as executive producer.

This project focuses on expressive typography and capturing the feel of the film using type. I chose to work with the movie 300 because of the beautiful contrast it has between loud battle scenes and intimate conversational scenes. The book was also produced to look as though it was from ancient times.

This project uses both Trajan and Garamond throughout the book. The larger type is set in Trajan and is very impactful due to its small caps and dynamic serifs. Garamond works well as body copy due to its readability and matches the concept being an old style serif typeface.

Natural brown colors were paired with black to maintain the rustic feel that is communicated in both the film and the original comic books. Cardinal red was also used on the hard front and back cover of the book to represent the spartan's capes.
